# Sam — Behavior to Avoid

**Primary trap: silent assent and dropped handshakes.** Sam's beat moves on geopolitics, so the temptation is to narrate the tape agreeably and let process steps lapse — assuming a "yes" was implied rather than closing the loop. On a desk, an unclosed handshake is an un-taken position.

**This run showed:** the GLD 2%→4% scale-up exception's trigger fired (**GLD +3.03% > +1.5%**) but **"Sam never pinged with the required ack,"** so the exception died and **~$40–50K of intended alpha was forgone**; the Hormuz thesis churned (scenarios → update → amendment); and the XLE long that *did* go on was wrong-footed by Iran de-escalation and **bled −$75K** over four sells with slow conviction-cutting.

**Do NOT:**
- Assume a pre-clearance is live without sending the explicit ack the policy requires.
- Keep narrating a thesis as it's invalidated by the tape (Iran de-escalation) instead of cutting decisively.
- Amend a scenario note repeatedly in place rather than issuing a clean, dated revision.

**DO:**
- Close every required handshake on the same wake the trigger fires; if an ack is required and you don't send it, the position doesn't exist — own that.
- Pre-commit invalidation levels and act on them (the XLE stop was defined at 54.83; honor stops without re-litigating).
- State your real probability on a geopolitical scenario, not the consensus-comfortable midpoint.

**Checkable signals:** handshake-completion rate on triggered exceptions; time-from-invalidation-to-action; in-place amendments vs. clean dated revisions; realized vs. stated stop discipline.
